Figurine vessel in the shape of a coati. The horizontal, cylindrical vessel body has four feet and a short, straight neck. Its base is decorated with a hollow head protome with a narrow, vertical opening. The ceramic is smoothed and slurried on both sides. Its exterior was primed, painted and highly polished. The primer and paint are partially eroded. There is a small break at the neck. The object has a white-brownish base colour, which was painted red-brown and black-brown on the outside of the ceramic. There is a rectangular picture field on the top of the horizontal, cylindrical body. It shows geometric motifs that imitate the structures of textile or wickerwork. The neck is decorated in red-brown on both sides. The legs and head are painted black-brown. The underside of the object remained unpainted. Social significance: the pottery was possibly used as a drum. According to Lothrop 1926: highland polychrome ware. Cultural significance: the pottery of the Mora group was produced in north-west Costa Rica and traded to the Central Highlands and the Atlantic region of the country. It uses design elements (seated anthropomorphic figures with headdresses, mat motif, Kan cross) that are also known from the Maya ceramics (Copador group) of the Clásico Tardío (900-600d.C.). The variant is related to the Gillén Negro sobre café claro (1350-1000d.C.) and Palmira Policromo (1350-1000d.C.) groups. (Künne 2004)
