The New Inventory gives the date of receipt as 22 November 1909, the provenance as "Marshall Islands (Nauru)" and the type of acquisition as a reference to the gift from Brandeis in 1900. An old inventory number is missing. The date could be a typographical error and refer to 22 November 1901, i.e. the second Brandeis consignment. The file card also states 22 November 1901 as the date of receipt. However, there is no comparable item in the item list associated with this consignment. In the first consignment from Brandeis in April 1900, however, there are several belts whose whereabouts are unclear and which could match this object: No. 174 (Old Inv. No. 1452) and 175 (Old Inv. No. 1453).
The objects in the Brandeis collection from Nauru were apparently collected by the local district governor Ludwig Kaiser (SAF C3/241/1).
