Ceremonial board

An exceptional boardlike specimen with filigree carving. A human head, framed by two bird figures, is integrated into the open-work carving. Traces of white painting and red chalk are present. The design is similar to the so-called Malu boards, which were memorial shields for the recently departed, but don't have a tapering tip. According to the inventory, the piece, which was purchased through the dealer Arthur Speyer for the Municipal Collections, came from one of the men's houses.
