Characteristic of the So-na (Suona) are the profiled body made of dark-coloured wood, in which each finger hole is located in a turned recess, and the bell made of aluminium or brass. An attachment with two balls (which can also be perforated) and two discs carries the small reed. The instrument has seven frontal tone holes and a thumb hole. This type of instrument is also played in Japan and Vietnam and represents the characteristic shape of a so-na with a white metal funnel and reed support made of the same material. The small mouthpiece is made of straw.
