Die Wuppertaler Textilien aus dem heutigen
Indonesien stammen von Eduard von der Heydt, der sie 1937 dem
Städtischen Museum Wuppertal übergab. Dieser kaufte sie beim
Kunsthändler Carel van Lier in Amsterdam. Ursprünglich gehörten sie zum
kuratierten Bestand des deutsch-jüdischen Bankiers Georg Tillmann, der
ab 1932 in Amsterdam lebte. Von einst 80 Textilien sind heute noch 68
erhalten, wobei es sich um Stoffe von den Inseln Java, Sumatra, Timor,
Borneo und Bali in Ikat-, Songket- oder Batik-Technik handelt. Die
meisten Stücke entstanden im späten 19. und frühen 20. Jahrhundert, als
das heutige Indonesien unter niederländischer Kolonialherrschaft stand.
Ehemalige Objekt-Nummer I 24. Kettgemustertes Baumwollgewebe, aus zwei
Webbahnen bestehend, die mittig mit Zierstichen zusammengefügt sind.
Jede der beiden Webbahnen besteht aus einem ca. 6 cm breitem
blau/naturweiß Kettikat-gemusterten Mittelstreifen und zwei seitlichen,
ca. 2 cm breiten Kettikatstreifen, die von breiten Muster-bändern aus
verschiedenfarbigen Kettstreifen mit integrierten feinen
Kettikattstreifen unterbrochen werden. Die Ikatkette ist doppelfädig,
die Kettstreifenkette einfädig. An je einem Ende des
Kettikat-Mittelstreifens befindet sich ein schmale Zwirnflechtbordüre im
Fransenbereich. Unversäuberte Webkanten an den Geweberändern, offene
Kettfransen (ca. 7,0 - 9,0 cm lang) an den
Gewebeenden.
