It has been smoothed, slurried, primed and painted on both sides. The primer and paint are partially eroded. The ceramic has a salmon-coloured primer that was painted red, orange, brown and black. The upper rim is decorated with a surrounding black band. Several circumferential bands appear on the lower rim. The base features a stylised, zoomorphic figure with two heads. Its body and extremities form a swastika. The figure appears to be moving. On the underside of the object there are several bands running around the edges. Symbolic meaning: the central motif embodies a lizard-like creature. According to Lothrop 1926: highland polychrome ware, plumed serpent, type B. Cultural significance: this type was produced exclusively in the south of the Gran Nicoya region. It stands out due to the colour range of its decoration, a fine line and the depiction of moving figures. The pottery is mainly known from burials. Lizard-like creatures with a crest on their heads also occur in the Buenos Aires Policromo (1550-1000d.C.), Cartago Línea Roja (1550-1000d.C.), Potosí Aplicado, variedad Potosí (1350-500d.C.), Macaracas Policromo (1100-900d.C.) and Conte Policromo (900-700d.C.) groups.
