Minakawa had dedicated himself to the depiction of traditional Japanese rural architecture in particular. His style is - as can be seen - two-dimensional and always characterised by strong colours; derived from the dyeing tradition of Kyoto, his home town, he created large pictures in batik, including some based on architectural models from other cultures in East Asia and Europe.
