Small, round-bottomed bowl with a hollow base. The object has been smoothed on both sides, slurried, primed, painted and lightly polished. The primer and paint are partially eroded. There are small flakes on the base. The ceramic has a white-yellowish base colour, which is painted red, orange and black. The object is decorated with a red band around the edge. In the base of the bowl is a red, stylised, zoomorphic figure. It seems to embody a snake-like creature that appears simultaneously in profile, frontal and top view. The figure is surrounded by two opposing, mammal-like figures that are connected at the mouth and tail. The orange figures are depicted in side profile and appear to be moving. The upright wall sections are painted red. The outside of the vessel wall is decorated with two black lines running around the centre. Two circumferential red bands appear on the lower parts of the wall. The base is painted red. According to Lothrop 1926: highland polychrome ware, plumed serpent, type B. Cultural significance: this type was produced exclusively in the south of the Gran Nicoya region. It stands out due to the colour range of its decoration, a fine line and the depiction of moving figures. The pottery is mainly known from burials. Lizard-like creatures with a crest on their heads also occur in the Buenos Aires Policromo (1550-1000d.C.), Cartago Línea Roja (1550-1000d.C.), Potosí Aplicado, variedad Potosí (1350-500d.C.), Macaracas Policromo (1100-900d.C.) and Conte Policromo (900-700d.C.) groups.
