Small, spherical jug with a slightly protruding neck. The object has been smoothed and polished on both sides. Its exterior is primed, painted and highly polished. The primer and paint are partially eroded. There are several fractures on the neck. The pottery has a red-brown base colour, which is painted black and red on the outside of the vessel. The body is decorated with a circumferential frieze consisting of two interwoven bundles of lines. The motifs appear to imitate textile or wickerwork. The interior of the object remains undecorated, apart from the slurried neck. According to Lothrop 1926: highland polychrome ware. The collector's number comes from the object labelling. In the inventory it is also linked to the number IV Ca 41641, which describes a different vessel. Cultural significance: the pottery of the Mora group was produced in the north-west of Costa Rica and traded to the Central Highlands and the Atlantic region of the country. It uses design elements (seated anthropomorphic figures with headdresses, mat motif, Kan cross) that are also known from the Maya pottery (Copador group) of the Clásico Tardío (900-600d.C.). The variant is related to the Gillén Negro sobre café claro (1350-1000d.C.) and Palmira Policromo (1350-1000d.C.) groups. (Künne 2004)
