The woodwind instrument, which is usually turned from apricot wood and has a large double reed, is played in pairs and is often accompanied by the Armenian drum dhol. At the request of Armenia in 2005, the duduk was added to the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity in 2008.
