This pendant was worn on Nauru by men during their wives' pregnancies. It is woven from pale and black bast and decorated with small shell and coconut discs. Towards the bottom there are nine, equidistant red shell discs. Expectant mothers also wore a corresponding pendant to signal their status (II/1423).
