Large, bulbous jug with a wide, overhanging rim. The object has been smoothed and polished on both sides. Its exterior is primed, painted and polished. The primer and paint are partially eroded. There is a medium-sized crack on the body. The pottery has a red base colour, which is painted black on the outside of the vessel. There is a broad, all-round line on the rim. The body is decorated with three shouldered, horizontal line fields. They are made up of circumferential, straight lines and circumferential wavy lines. Three vertical bundles of lines, consisting of three thin, parallel lines, hang down from the lowest line. The inside of the rim is painted red. After Lothrop 1926: Nicoya black line ware, hanging line motif. According to Lehmann 1913: El Viejo style. Cultural significance: the type also occurs in the Cordillera de Guanacaste and in the Atlántico Norte region. It has been documented both in burials and in household contexts. (Künne 2004)
