Provenance
The provenance of this object is unclear. In the New Inventory Book it was catalogued together with II/1447 as "2 slings. no longer in use" and assigned to the Brandeis donation of November 1901 from the Marshall Islands. At a later date, "Kait, S.W. coast of New Mecklenburg" was added by hand to II/1446. There were similar slingshots in the 2nd consignment from Brandeis in November 1901 (e.g. nos. 33-35, old inv. nos. 2153-2155), but the old inventory number 4694 indicates that this is probably an object from Emil Stephan's Oceania collection, which came to the museum in September 1907.
