D01154 axe blade

Ashlar-shaped blade made of a dark grey stone, mostly with a very smooth surface. It widens from one narrow end to the other. One of the flat sides narrows in an arc towards the cutting edge. "P" was written in blue coloured pencil on one of the sides. This collection originated from the collecting trip of museum director Hugo Schauinsland in 1896/97. He travelled the north-west coast of the USA and the Pacific (Hawaii, Samoa, New Zealand, South Australia) and then returned to Europe via Sri Lanka and Egypt.
