Dignity rod

This very finely crafted staff is a prestigious rank insignia with ceremonial significance. In many depictions we see high dignitaries holding such staffs vertically in their hands. The vertical refers to the connection between heaven and earth. Most offices in the kingdom were hereditary and joined in a strict hierarchical order. Text: Dietmar Neitzke.
