Description
Horst Sieloff (1895–1971), a trained taxidermist, worked for the Löbbecke Museum in Düsseldorf from 1919 onwards. From 1931 to 1933, he was deputy director of the museum and Düsseldorf Zoo, and became museum director in 1936. Sieloff led an expedition to Cameroon from 13 September to 30 November 1936. With this expedition, animals, plants and cultural artefacts were brought back to Düsseldorf, the latter of which are now part of the Aquazoo Löbbecke Museum collection. Paul Kuliga and Ari Kampf were also among the participants of the expedition.
Dr Paul Kuliga (1878–1948) was chief physician at the Luisenkrankenhaus hospital in Düsseldorf. His private interest in amphibians probably led to his participation in the Cameroon expedition.
Aribert (Ari) Walter Kampf (1894–1955) came from a family of artists and had studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. In addition to his artistic activities, he made a name for himself as an amateur lepidopterist (butterfly expert).
