Donation from Hugo Ficke (1840-1912), 1911
Hugo Ficke was an honorary museum director and member of the Freiburg city council. Ficke acquired the object during his trip to Asia from 1908 to 1909 in Sri Lanka. As the details of the place of purchase in his travel report are not clear, it is not certain whether Ficke bought the drum between 19 and 28 December 1908 in a shop in Kandy or between 28 December 1908 and 3 January 1909 from the Ruwanwelisaya temple in the city of Anuradhapura.
