The instrument has seven frontal tone holes and a thumb hole. The top of the body and the funnel are elaborately painted in several colours and richly decorated with carvings that apparently depict flowers. Occasionally they also bear mother-of-pearl appliqués. The metal pipe support carries a small, domed lip disc. The mouthpiece is made of either palm leaf or reed.
