Ethnomusicology index card: A leather membrane is stretched over a roughly spherical wooden vessel with a base, which is closed and blackened at the bottom. 13 strong wooden pegs nail the skin to the drum body. In addition, leather straps run from perforations on the edge of the membrane to the pegs. A leather cord is laid horizontally around the drum body through the perforations.
