The collection of Antonie Brandeis includes numerous necklaces made from shells and plant material. This piece consists of small white snail shells that have been threaded onto a cord of twisted bast.

The term "marmat" can be found in the collector's object list and was also included in the old inventory of the MNM, but is probably a spelling mistake. In the Marshall Islands, the term "marmar" would be appropriate for necklaces of this type.
