"No head is as heavy as the one on the scales". This proverb means that one's own losses are always the heaviest to bear. Here a dead Safohen (officer or junior captain of the company) is mourned by a comrade, both of them recognisable by virtue of their swords. The two other people are probably relatives. The small woman sports a "croissant hairstyle", which has been the traditional headdress of high-ranking Fante women since the 19th century. Flags with this motif are usually a rallying call for revenge. Author: Doris Kubisch
