The wooden main body has small stones on the underside, which had to be sharp and are set into the body in a regular arrangement. Two small pieces of wood are attached to the top. The front piece of wood is fitted with a metal ring to which the threshing sledge could be attached to an animal by means of a rope so that it could be pulled over the grain. A smaller wooden board was attached to the front of the main body at an obtuse angle. The straw was first caught by this wooden board before being crushed under the stone-covered main body.
