The rollers are labelled: "Wheelwright" + consecutive number. The correspondence shows that the recordings were sponsored by Mrs Mary Wheelwright, hence the inscription "Wheelwright". The collection was inventoried as FE 5. The EB Schneider only contains information on the contents of W.1 - 27 and 84 - 146. Correspondence is available. According to a letter from E. Sapir to Hornbostel dated 2 June 1930, the 1st part of this collection consists of 27 reels with songs "Night Chant", recorded by Mr Newcomb. A set of copies was sent to the AMNH (New York), the Bureau of Ethnology (Washington) and Mr Kenneth Chapman (Santa Fe) (letter from E. Sapir to Hornbostel dated 2 June 1930). Copies are in the Library of Congress, Whashington D.C., inventoried there as "Navaho Songs - Inez Barrington Collection" cyl. 1 - 146, AFS No. 14773 (communication Judith Gray 29 Sept. 2000).
