Starting at the bottom, the vase becomes increasingly bulbous, tapers again and then continues in roughly the same width. It is decorated on the outside with angular and round geometric patterns, typical Kadiweu patterns. These are notched into the clay, the notches are traced with white paint and the resulting fields are painted with the following colours: Shiny black, olive green, ochre, gold, shiny pink, reddish brown, matt pink. Note: The Kadiweu use the same patterns on their clay products as for body painting; see Strauss: Sad Tropics.
