Iconographic type: (paradise scenes/Sukhavati). First publication and detailed description by Klose-Wang, Petra /Xing Jun,: " Die Predigt des S....- eine Bildanalyse. In: Müller, C. (ed.): Wege der Götter und Menschen, Berlin (SMPK), 1989, p. 20 ff (with complete and detailed photographs). Expertise FWK Müller of 21 June 1902 (file E 758/1902): Buddha preaching, surrounded by bodhisattvas, including Manjusri and Samantabhadra; gods, angels, demigods, demons, apostles, etc. Date not yet found, but the picture is probably 200 years old. Originates from the Hunter's Temple, more precisely Wan-schan-dien (= Hall of Ten Thousand, i.e. countless virtues). Overpainted in some places by a European hand (including the addition of highlights). However, the Hunter's Temple in the imperial city has been inaccessible to Europeans since the Jesuit period. Possibly painted over by Panzi (active in the palace in 1773) or another court Jesuit during the reign of Emperor Ch'ien lung (1736-1796). Father Altiret, who painted at court in 1743 and 1754, may be a possible candidate. Müller emphasises the good quality and exceptional dimensions. First-class enrichment for the museum.
