Deep bowl with a stand ring and a high, slightly concave wall. The object has been smoothed on both sides, slurried, primed, painted and lightly polished. The paint and primer are partially eroded. The outside of the pottery has a red base colour, which is painted black and white. There is a circumferential frieze on the vessel wall, which is bordered by two pairs of horizontal lines. It shows black triangles and diagonal bundles of lines reminiscent of textile or wickerwork. All black lines and coloured areas have thin, white outer lines. The inside of the object shows a white opaque colour on a red base coat. The edge was painted red. After Lothrop 1926: Nicoya black line ware. According to Lehmann 1913: El Viejo style. Cultural significance: the Tola Tricromo group is considered a diagnostic indicator of the Policromo Antiguo (500-800d.C.). The Costa Rican variant López has been documented above all in the Bahía de Culebra and in the valley of the Río Tempisque. It seems to have emerged from the Rosales Esgrafiado en zonas group (500d.C.-500a.C.). The Nicaraguan variant Tola has many similarities with the Chávez Blanco sobre Rojo group (800-500d.C.).
