Square medicine container on the belly. Traces of breakage on the back suggest that the figure was once part of a larger carving. The fractures have been blackened. The front parts of the feet are broken off. The spelling of the cultural attribution varies in the sources; on the old index cards in the museum, the designation "Bangua" is predominantly used.

Description
Military interventions against the "Bangwa" took place in the collection period between 1901-1902, in which Strümpell was involved as a lieutenant or first lieutenant of the German Schutztruppe. The structural connection between military penetration and collecting points to a context of violence in which Strümpell acquired the "Bangwa" collection. It is possibly a work from the workshop of the Bangwa artist Ateu Atsa (cf. Lintig 2001, p. 79)
