The rollers are labelled: Kauffmann Assam. According to correspondence, the rollers were sent to Berlin in several shipments, the collection is not registered in the EB Schneider. Extensive correspondence is available. As early as 1938 there was talk of a joint publication by Schneider and Kauffmann (cf. also Schneider 1939: 277), but this was not published until after the Second World War (Kauffmann & Schneider 1960). However, some musical examples can already be found earlier in M. Schneider's publications (1938b, 1951a). Until 1998, neither documentation nor further records could be found in the PHA. Extensive materials (transcriptions, texts, manuscripts etc.) were made available to the PHA in 1998 through the mediation of B. Bleibinger from the Institute of Ethnology and African Studies in Munich. According to correspondence, a film is available!
