The short, straight neck has a slightly curved lip. The ceramic is smoothed and slipped on both sides. Its exterior was primed and painted in polychrome. The base colour and painting are partially eroded. The vessel has a salmon-coloured base, which is painted black, brown and red. The lip and rim are decorated with a black band. The body of the vessel is decorated with a high, circumferential ornamental band consisting of interlocking stepped elements. The rounded motifs are made up of inverted, coloured shapes and negative recesses. The frieze is bordered by all-round black lines. There are two horizontal red bands at the base and below the edge. The interior of the object remains undecorated. According to Lothrop 1926: Nicoya polychrome ware, interlocking step scroll. Cultural significance: the pottery is known both from burials and from settlement contexts. It is related to the Mora Policromo group (1350-800d.C.). (Künne 2004)
