The rod is embroidered with glass beads on one side. Colours of the glass beads: black, white, green, yellow, light and dark blue. Staffs decorated with glass beads or cowries served as insignia of power and were carried by kings and notables on public occasions as a sign of power and status (Rachel Mariembe and His Majesty Fonjinju Tatabong Alexandre, 27 October 2020). The spelling of the cultural attribution varies in the sources; on the old index cards in the museum, the term "Bangua" is predominantly used.

Description
Military interventions against the "Bangwa" took place in the collection period between 1901-1902, in which Strümpell was involved as a lieutenant or first lieutenant of the German Schutztruppe. The structural connection between military penetration and collecting points to a context of violence in which Strümpell acquired the "Bangwa" collection.
